Amanda Tapping provides Sanctuary on Friday nights
Sanctuary, Sci-Fi channel’s new show, has proven to be a hit. Amanda Tapping, best known as Samantha Carter on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis stars in this action-packed show that mixes Ghostbusters and gothic literature. The success of the show isn’t contingent on the star power of Amanda Tapping, but rather the fact that it mixes gothic culture with mythological lore and does it well disallowing the clichés that are involved with science fiction culture. Originality and a deeper plot following, combined with likeable and believable characters lend to the success of the show. This is what allowed Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica to become so popular and long-lasting. It has a mix of action, adventure, and not so much of your convoluted plot lines that involve extraneous circumstances involving the show’s antagonist and protagonist. Could this be a new wave of success for the Sci-Fi channel? The ratings for the show are extraordinary smashing previous records set by shows on the Sci-Fi channel.
