Stargate Universe: Best in Series?

I was fortunate enough to be able to watch the official pilot of Stargate Universe. nmnm  If you were a fan of Atlantis or SG-1, you might have mixed feelings about Universe.  However, the problem therein lies with where your tastes are in the scifi genre.  SG-1 was very conservative with the violence and action bit, while Atlantis was getting a little edgier with the violence and action.  In Universe, at least the pilot, viewers are treated to a more action-oriented approach as opposed to character development.  The main characters are likable, but don’t have quite the wit and intuitiveness as their counterparts on Atlantis or SG-1Universe seems more serious than their predecessors and there’s nothing wrong with that.  No major cameos, and lots of references to the previous shows.  I like this one more because of the more serious nature of their mission.  I think it adds a little more to the credibility to the show.  It’s definitely worth checking out.   This one should be an instant hit.  There is lots of story development early on, too, which helps the action pick up.  It’s a must-see.  Check out and let’s talk about it.

    That’s sad, really. The beauty of the previous SG’s was the wit, coupled with action. Specifically, SG1 was a good attempt at a well-rounded show that a family could watch together. Atlantis did push the limit on that aspect. It looks as if Universe will try to go the route of the BSG series as for grit, violence, and seriousness. That’s not a good combination.

    @Rod

    I think wit comes as the characters develop themselves on set. It was the same in the previous SG’s and other Sci-Fi series’s like Voyager, TNG etc.

    Let the characters start to develop first, you’ll see.

    I’m looking forward to a more serious (and less silly) Stargate.

    I have to admit, I zoned out of SG about the time we started seeing the Asgardians regularly. It had become too much repetition with a new species and too campy. I tried to like Atlantis, I really did, but just couldn’t make the leap. But now, SGU has caught my eye. It does seem to have the edgy feeling in the photography. I have to admit, I have not seen it yet, though it is set to record on my DVR(set it last night). I hope this is a series that can draw new followers in, not just provide more fodder for the old fans. Let’s face it, some fans will eat up anything with the SG tag on it.

    I grew up with Sci-Fi as a fixture, in the TV I watched, the books I read, and the movies I went to. I look forward to seeing if this is the kind of show that will get Sci-Fi the viewership it deserves…and gets the WWE crap off of SyFy.

    I think the producers of Stargate are trying to capitalize on the success of the previous two and work off the success of BSG and I agree with Paul, SGU is making the leap out of “family-friendly.” I only saw the pilot, so who knows how it will turn out. From what I could tell from the pilot, there’s not one person that really stood out that’s like the LT Shephard or O’Neill. There were some attempts, but kind of fell short. Who knows. I’d like to hear your opinions after you see the show. I’m going to watch it again to see if maybe I missed something. Thanks for leaving comments, guys.

    It doesn’t really matter if its too serious, nor if the witty remarks from 1 or all are few and far between, its stargate, STARGATE, and that itself gives me goosebumps, Robert carlise, Lou diamond phillips i mean come on, these 2 actors in particular carlise wouldn’t have signed up for this if it was going to be bad, I personally am delighted the stargate saga, however it coinsides with sg1 and atlantis will continue

    “viewers are treated to a more action-oriented approach as opposed to character development.”

    What are you doing reviewing shows? LOL. That’s the exact opposite of what the show is like!
