Discussion Question
So, why didn’t Avatar win “Best Picture” last night? Don’t get me wrong, Hurt Locker was a great movie and they both deserved to win it, but why Hurt Locker and not Avatar. Let me hear your thoughts?

because Hurt Locker attempts to make a lasting impression in an area hitherto unbeknownst to people in general, while Avater is speaking to the already convinced, nothing new under the sun. which basically makes Hurt Locker the better movie - for me.
Militarized, militarized, militarized. I was happy that those big bad rebels went AWOL for a matter of conscience, but not half as happy as I would have been if they hadn’t been in the dang marines in the first place.
Also, I got the distinct sensation that the designers and the dialoguers were from two different planets. There was some nice design I guess (boring), but the overlaid voices were just atrocious. What was that one about “Taking it to the next level”? Uggghhhh.
