Watchmen attempts to come out March 6, 2009

Watchmen, barring all legal suits are cleared and good to go, will debut March 6th.  Those familiar with the Watchmen series are familiar of the many spinoffs that come from it, but this movie will follow the basic premises of the novel.  An ex-superhero is killed by an unknown assailant and the hunt for the killer is on.  Rorsach will play the investigator into the death and his conclusions will lead to a shocking conclusion (If you’ve read the graphic novel).  The complement of characters will be in the movie as they are in the novel.  For those who aren’t familiar with Watchmen, the book revolves around said murder and the investigation thereof which, not to give away too much, the destruction of all heroes.  There is an underlying theme but that is for the watchers and readers to determine that and is not for conversation here.  The book’s plot (though undetermined in the movie) has an impending nuclear war between the United States and Russia.  The main characters you need to be aware of are Silk Spectre (both), Dr. Manhattan, Ozymandias, Nite Owl (both), and Rorschach.  Subsequent characters will make cameos and likely play a larger role if sequels are made.  The film should be a blockbuster hit, but unfortunately it will have to follow The Spirit, a much-anticipated film that had mediocre responses.  It comes at the right time of the season where it is in the movie drull.  This film comes in much anticipated because it’s 23 years of attempted production.  Now with the legal battles attempting to keep Watchmen on the shelf, its arrival would be much warranted.

The Spirit comes to life Christmas Day

It is fitting that one of the most anticipated movies coming out into theaters gets an introduction that does it justice. The Spirit, one of the most celebrated graphic novels of our time comes to the big screen on Christmas day. The movie and graphic novel revolves around Denny Colt, a rookie cop that gets killed in the line of duty, but returns to exact justice. The Spirit is a graphic novel created by Will Eisner in the 1940’s but its popularity far surpassed his expectations. The movie version looks to stay true to the characters in the novel. Gabriel Macht will play Denny Colt, Samuel L. Jackson will play The Octopus, and Eva Mendez will play Sand Saref. Ebony White will not appear in the film, but played a prominent part in the series, as the sidekick to The Spirit. Ebony is an African-American who was introduced by Eisner in the late-40’s to early 50’s at a time where race was a forefront of society. This novel follows Denny in a number of scenarios that revolve around, ultimately, his drive to rid evil. It is argued that Batman was created by the inspiration of the Spirit. Ultimately, the graphic novel lasted for 50 years with several different publishers. The Spirit will be directed by Frank Miller, director of Sin City 1-3. His creative genius will bring another coveted graphic novel to life. The Spirit will live on.
