New Stargate series and Sanctuary = Awesome Friday Lineup

For Stargate fans who thought it was over…it’s not.  Stargate Universe is the third installment of the series behind SG-1 and Atlantis.  It is set to come out in the fall in the late September/early October timeframe, about the same time all new shows will be airing.  Stargate Universe will not see any cast members from Atlantis or SG-1 and the storyline is nearly stand alone.  The plan for SciFi Channel is to air the new Stargate with Sanctuary for a killer Friday night lineup.  Sanctuary has been contracted for another full season.  Tentative dates for both shows’ premiers is September 25th or October 2nd.  Those are ball park figures based off the schedule of other shows who are planning to air their premiers in the fall.   If anything changes, I will be sure to let you know all the details.

Two Stargate movies to air on SciFi Channel in back-to-back weeks

Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum will air on the SciFi Channel.  Ark of Truth will air on Friday, March 27 at 9:00 ET, and Continuum will air on Friday, April 3 at 9:00 ET with a replay of Ark of Truth airing before.  Both movies, having to do with the SG-1 series will tie up loose ends left behind during the duration of the show.  While I will not spoil those for the viewers, I am confident that you will be pleased.  Both movies will include referenes to past characters of SG-1 and Atlantis, but Atlantis will not be a vital factor in either movie.  Look for both movies on Scifi Channel in the coming weeks.

Stargate Atlantis nearing end, expect surprises

Stargate: Atlantis nears its end with the final two episodes.  It has been rumored that characters who were in the show in the past or characters from SG-1 will make appearances, minus Samanthat Carter and Teal’c.  My suspicions are Jack O’Neill will return.  It wouldn’t be beyond Stargate producers to bring him back because he was the one who revolutionized the show.  To go with the SG-1 vain, I suspect Colonel Mitchell and Vala will make a cameo, if not a minor role.  Stargate SG-1 finished its show after 10 seasons and over 200 episodes.  It also concluded the series with the movie Stargate: Continuum.  Do not be surprised if Stargate: Atlantis ends with a movie or two to tie up loose ends (which Atlantis didn’t have many of) as a way to help promote the show for a comeback or just to tie everything together.  Though a movie isn’t in production as of yet, Stargate: Continuum didn’t get produced or written until a few months after the series ended.  Fans of the show and the franchise will be sad that the show is coming to its end, but Stargate SG-1 and subsequently Stargate: Atlantis wasn’t expected to last as long as it did.  Savor the time it was on air and certainly enjoy the final two episodes.  The chance for another great show comes few and far between.

Amanda Tapping provides Sanctuary on Friday nights

Sanctuary, Sci-Fi channel’s new show, has proven to be a hit. Amanda Tapping, best known as Samantha Carter on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis stars in this action-packed show that mixes Ghostbusters and gothic literature. The success of the show isn’t contingent on the star power of Amanda Tapping, but rather the fact that it mixes gothic culture with mythological lore and does it well disallowing the clichés that are involved with science fiction culture. Originality and a deeper plot following, combined with likeable and believable characters lend to the success of the show. This is what allowed Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica to become so popular and long-lasting. It has a mix of action, adventure, and not so much of your convoluted plot lines that involve extraneous circumstances involving the show’s antagonist and protagonist. Could this be a new wave of success for the Sci-Fi channel? The ratings for the show are extraordinary smashing previous records set by shows on the Sci-Fi channel. Look for Sanctuary to be a long lasting hit. Don’t take my word on it. Check it out on Fridays, 9:00 CT on the Sci-Fi Channel.
