Caprica to Premier on Syfy Channel

For those fans of BSG, there is hope. Caprica (if you missed the web series or don’t own it on DVD rent it or see), will premier on Friday, January 22 at 9 ET. It is effectively a prequel to BSG and there is alot to like about it. Both leads (antagonists) play a wonderful role, but that’s not where this will be successful. Caprica will give BSG fans new hope but it will also add to a potent Friday night lineup. For more information on Caprica, you can go to syfy.com and check on the official site’s link. It’s an effective way to get caught up, but the series looks to stay around for a long time. There is a lot to like about the new Friday evening lineup and Caprica will help bring a new look to the Syfy channel being put back-to-back with Stargate: Universe. January 22. Mark your calendars.
Change of Name Means Change of Programming
SciFi will be changing to SyFy, essentially getting an upgrade. How is this important? According to SciFi Channel representatives, it means a lot. The new catch phrase is to “Imagine Greater”. What it boils down to is they’re shedding what preconceptions the SciFi channel had before: reputation for putting out bad movies and showing the retreads of shows that couldn’t quite hack it today. Will this change the fact that SciFi, or Syfy, will be any better than before? Well, I don’t know, but the marketing gimmick is pretty darn clever. Sure it’s changing a few letters, but when you put it in perspective, it’s really changing the way business is run. Here’s what you can expect. You can expect to see more genres touched upon on the SyFy Channel with edgier shows, movies, series, etc. It will broaden the scope instead of just sticking with Science Fiction. Now more people can watch the channel and that means ratings. You can also expect daytime SyFy channel to not run marathons on one show. Now, here’s the biggest question: Will they keep their hit-or-miss Saturday movie. Unfortunately yes. However, more caution has been made in being selective on what movie gets played. We’ll find out soon enough.
