Syfy Channel Not Impressing
The newly redefined, reimaged Syfy Channel thus far has not impressed me. Much of the lineup has not changed, the movies are just as bad as before and the new shows are mildly interesting (the exception is Eureeka which is pretty awesome). Other than that, what has been redefined, reimaged? The Friday lineup seems to change every week, Ghost Hunters for whatever reason is still on air (have they found any substantial evidence yet?) and ECW? It’s early, I know, but I’m quickly losing faith in the channel. The genre will still be near and dear to me, but there should be a better representation of all things Science Fiction and Horror. The Chill channel is better than SyFY and that’s not saying much. At least Chill is a little edgier with their movies.
Warehouse 13’s Much Anticipated Review
If Warehouse 13 was the supposed savior of SyFy Channel, then it might look as if the SyFy Channel’s not going to stick around that much longer. After watching the pilot last night, I was reminded why the SyFy Channel has been struggling (with the exception of Eureeka and Stargate). I, and thousands of other people, had high hopes for the show, but all I got was an agonzing two hours of mental mush. The concept of the movie is great and could have gone a long way: the idea that there is a secret warehouse of alien gizmos and gadgets. Not to ruin anything for those who haven’t seen it, but could the chemistry of the two protagonists be anymore off? They didn’t belong on the screen together and what’s worse, the writing didn’t mesh with their characters. The action was slow and undeveloped (even for the pilot of a series). Warehouse 13 has been slated for one whole season, but I don’t anticipate it being renewed. A friend told me it’s too early to tell on a show and that I should wait until at least the third episode to make a judgement call. That’s what I’m going to do so bear that in mind.
